Here's the cover Bujutsu and I 'fought' over at the auction the other night. It advertises Shirriff's Ltd, picturing their tasty vanilla extract.
It has a George V 'arch' coil SC183 and an interesting event cancel.
'Safety Convention Toronto April 21st and 22nd 1932'

It has a circle with the initials N.P. stamped on the reverse side. Does anyone know if this is some kind of auxiliary marking from the post office?

Could the encircled "N.P" refer to Northern Pacific Railway's RPO?

On this cover it is cancellation ink from another cover placed below it in a stack that has transferred up to the back of this cover also.

It is not easily removed. Usually you must destroy the infected items so the mold / fungus does not spread to the remainder of your collection.

Some chemicals will seem to remove the mold but in a climate such as the one you are in, warm and humid most likely, the mold will come back quickly.

You must spend money (if you can) and store your non-infected items in proper envelopes and use a dehumidifier and air the collection out once in a while. Search for Rust or Mold or Toning on Stamp Community for other ideas from people in similar climates.

Thanks for answering that one Puzzler.
The second photo (the reverse side) in inverted (upside down) to show the N.P. rubber stamp.
The black smudges actually match up pretty well with the smudged cancel on the front.
They must have had a fresh ink pad that day.

I don't think that the circled "N.P." is from the Northern Pacific Railway. Nothing like that is listed in my reference books on RPO cancellations like that. I could be wrong though.

I am inclined to think it might be some kind of code the Shirriff company used that went on their bulk mailings??

Just a thought
