Many German Duchies, Grand Duchies, Kingdoms etc. issued their own postage stamps in the 1800's, such as Oldenburg, Bavaria, Prussia, etc.

However, I am curious to know what stamps were used in other areas that did not issue stamps, such as Hessen, Weimar, Nassau, etc.

Would it be Thurn & Taxis?

Bee See, you may already have found this page if you have been checking online resources for your question...

Quote:
Under the German Federal Act, the postal systems of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, the duchies of Nassau, Saxe-Weimar, Saxe-Meiningen, and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the principalities of Reuss and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, the free cities of Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Bremen, and Lübeck, the principalities of Hohenzollern-Hechingen, Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, Lippe-Detmold and Schaumburg-Lippe were placed under the now privately-operated Thurn-und-Taxis-Post. The seat of the post's headquarters in Frankfurt am Main was confirmed on 20 May 1816.

Also there is a map of the 1843 postal networks in Germany at the website.

Thanks for that great information Jkjblue. I had not read all the Wikipedia information this morning, I had to go to work. When will I get my priorities straight .

I also note that:

"the German Federal Act of 8 June 1815 which required states that had established their own postal system, or intended to do so, to give the House of Thurn and Taxis fair compensation for its loss of revenue."

The free cities of Bremen and Lubeck and the state of Hamburg eventually had there own postal system issued there own stamps, before the end of Thurn and Taxis in 1867.
