What type of seller fees are there if any if an item does not sell. I don't sell much on ebay and if I do I usually start all my auctions at .99˘. The reason I ask is that there is a certain seller on ebay that I keep having to filter out due to the overpriced items. If a seller lists an item at say $45.00 start and it does not sell, does the seller pay a listing fee ? I checked this sellers completed listings out of curiosity just to see if he has ever sold anything and the results are as follows.

Last 650 listed items - 4 sold. That is less than 1%.

Depends on whether he has a store or not where he can list for pennies.

If he is just listing with the regular Sell Your Item page and does not have a store then he can take advantage of the 50 free listings per month and then the free days that happen now and then to list any item no matter what price for free.

I think there was just 3 free days or up to 50,000 items or something free. Everything gets dumped on ebay at those times.

If he has to pay fees, goes over his 50 or something, then the higher the starting price, the higher the listing fees are. Unless he has that Featured Seller or whatever it is for being a good ebay boy. Oops that doesn't sound so good. Didn't mean it badly.

Hundreds of dollars as a starting price costs $1 - $2 I think so not much compared to what he makes if he sells one, once in a while.

Here are the Listing fees from the ebay website.

Starting or reserve price = Insertion fee

$0.01–$0.99 = $0.10

$1.00–$9.99 = $0.25

$10.00–$24.99 = $0.50

$25.00–$49.99 = $0.75

$50.00–$199.99 = $1.00

$200.00 or more = $2.00

This is your only fee if an item does not sell. People think Listing fees are very high for expensive items, but it's not true; $2 is the maximum listing fee in Stamps, Coins, and Collectibles. Some other categories are much higher.

The majority of this sellers items are $20 - $100. If he is getting hit for listing fees then this seller is paying a fair amount...rather flushing down the proverbial crapper some decent money.

I think most of the badly priced garbage that nobody wants originates from ebay stores where they pay a monthly free plus item charges when they sell. It would be WONDERFUL if ebay ELIMINATED stores in the stamps category but its not going to happen? How else can they get revenue for non-sales?
