They print so much that they can't sell them. A shame. They should burn them.

On the year of the monkey print it says:

"Third in a series commemorating the Chinese Lunar New Year was designed to complement the full line of stamp and related products. The 2004 limited edition framed print is affixed with an officially cancelled Year of the Monkey souvenir sheet and is hand-numbered (omitting all numbered 4s) and hand-signed. "

What's the deal with omitting number 4's? Is it so it does not get confused with another number? I don't understand.

Wiki article on lucky and unlucky numbers:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number...nese_culture

The number 4 in Chinese sounds like the word 'death' so is considered unlucky. Compared to the Western practice of some buildings not having a 13th floor as the number 13 is considered unlucky.

Anything that starts with 4 is bad. This would include day 4, year 4, month 4, number 4 on a street, 4 stamps on an envelope, 4 anything really.

Same as the number 8 is considered lucky as it sounds like the words 'prosper' and 'wealth' . In regional dialects the words for "eight" and "fortune" are also similar. Double 8 '88' in Chinese looks like the popular symbol for double joy. The number 8 is viewed as such an auspicious number that even being assigned a number with several eights is considered very lucky.
