Hey does anyone live in the Toronto area? I've been trying to find the red Lighthouse 64 black pages, clear strips, unpadded stock book for the last four months. I have tried several stores in the GTA but it seems like every single store that I go to either does not stock the item or ran out of the inventory. I have even asked some stores to back order but it's been several months and they still don't have the item. I also tried ordering it online but Lighthouse USA does not ship to Canada and neither do the stores at Amazon. Can anyone help? Have you seen any in your local stamp shop? Thanks! P.S. Yes I know I am being very, very specific but I'm going for a particular look.

Actually, they are available in my local post office, though not sure if 64 pages are available. Surely post offices in Toronto with philatelic counters will have them. |

Canada Post does not have the item. I placed my order with boscastle but no confirmation and credit card hasn't been charged. It's been two weeks since I placed the order so it looks like I'm not going to get anything there either. Any other ideas guys? |

Like "canadianphilatelist" I too placed an order with Boscastle two weeks ago, but since then have received no indication the order has been processed or shipped. They are not responding to email, and phone messages are not returned. Perhaps they have gone out of business - has anyone here dealt with this company recently? |

64-page stockbooks are not recommended as the binding is usually not strong enough for a stock book of that size. I recommend 16-32 page stockbooks.
If they went bankrupt it will be a long time before you get your money back. If you get your money back. |

Quote: 64-page stockbooks are not recommended as the binding is usually not strong enough for a stock book of that size. Oh that explains a lot! I always thought it was because I kept looking at my stamps way, way too often. I chose to use the 64 page one because it is cheaper (i.e. cost per page). Now this creates a bit of a conundrum because I have my stamps in 64 page albums. Since I want all of my albums to look the same, if I start changing to 32 page albums then I'll have to buy many more albums *sigh* I even have a label maker to make labels for my albums but now the labels will be too big =( A second conundrum. Oh smauggie I wish you didn't make that comment because now I am thinking of reorganizing the whole thing which will cost me much more money =( |

It doesn't have to be a one-step process, CP. As your 64-pagers become too worn out to be useful, just replace with 32-pagers. In a matter of a few years, you will have everthing replaced and looking neat and tidy. You could also have them rebound as 32-page stockbooks once they come apart, or learn to rebind them yourself. Then you would have a set of custom-bound stockbooks with a design of your own choosing. |

I felt bad for having suggested you try Bocastle so earlier today I sent an email to see if they were still in business. My email read: I've read a few postings in an online stamp forum I belong to that indicate recent orders placed with you have not been acknowledged and calls/emails are not being returned. Are you still in business? Here is the response I just received: Quote: Hello Steve - Absolutely we are - I was in hospital for a week and recovering for two weeks so I got behind on everything - I got in some help - so we kept ourselves on top of the orders but we got behind on emails - we get hundreds a day so it is difficult. I hope you understand - thanks - Susan - Boscastle Supplies I subsequently asked if Susan would mind my posting her reason for the delays and she replied as follows: Quote: Hello Steve - That would be great thank you - I appreciate that - Regards - Susan - Boscastle Supplies I've received very prompt responses to my emails so you might want to inquire as to the status of your order (s). EDIT: hmb, welcome to the forum! |

Steve - thank you for your investigative work!
Unfortunately, I can't get my order with Boscastle cancelled since (your own success notwithstanding) no one there is responding to my email or phone inquiries. Since my credit card has already been charged, it will probably be more expedient to have them reverse the charge.
I'll follow up on the recommendations for alternative distributors of Lighthouse's products. |
