Perhaps one could send them $10 now and then. It would certainly help to show one's appreciation. |

Just notice this thread started last month. Last February I post Quote: One thing you forgot. As it's free to sell and auction on SCF, at least big seller should make a donation once in a while. I have in mind 2 big sellers on SCF that don't participate, just do selling and auction and never contribute money to SCF. Never like the idea that some just use this site as a no fees store without supporting it. Even less when they don't participate to discussions. Thank you Admin. Daniel |

Don't forget those who perpetually ask for help identifying stamps. They should either become a supporter or buy a Scott catalogue. Five dollars a month is cheaper than a set of Scott. |

Admin has already made a decision, like it or not. I'm not interested in discussing whether or not it was a good or bad decision, whether the person(s) who brought up the issue are to be praised or blamed. However, regarding decisions that have not been made... Quote: Don't forget those who perpetually ask for help identifying stamps. They should either become a supporter or buy a Scott catalogue. Five dollars a month is cheaper than a set of Scott. I have a very different perspective. I (attempt) to answer ID questions here for the very reason that there is no charge (nor pressure to contribute). I don't charge for my answers, so why should the Forum charge people for asking? If there was a requirement to pay to be able to ask questions, or undue pressure to contribute because of questions posted, I guarantee that I will be one of the first to leave. If I think someone is just being super-lazy and peppering this site with ID questions, or if it appears they are only asking questions to improve their sales at another site and have no interest in participating here, then I will simply ignore their ID questions. But in general, I find answering ID questions as an opportunity for me to sharpen my skills, and I also find out in the search that I learn things as well. My opinion. k |

After reading this I can be a culprit but not intentionally if there is a fee to pay I will be more than happy to comply with the rules , take note that everybody express their feelings and it make good sense to listen then make a decision , you are very compassionate in the way you conduct your duties this is very rewarding when you have so many people to deal with. This forum provides something that no other forum provides and that care and feelings of all the individuals who joins and participates daily ,I find myself becoming more articulate in this aspect of communication and glad to know that administration has a voice that stands alone with many supporters. Worldwide the stage is SCF and the world is our audience . SCF never fails to deliver ,so no better place to be interactive then here at SCF . We are family so everybody 2c matter.also being people sensitive. Thank you Administration for noting this it is very important to be one of us 2. |

I think the admins have done the right thing. If you are going to sell on the site then pay your way. Questions no matter how many are free to ask. Members don't have to answer them. So continue asking questions and posting interesting comments. That's fine. |

Since this has been brought up again, I'd like to ask a couple of questions here. I've emailed one of these to admin but received no response. Is it ok for a non supporter to hold a 'donation' auction, where the winner donates the price of his win to the site? None of the proceeds would go to the seller. Also is a non supporter allowed to hold a give away, where no money exchanges hands? |

That's very interesting I would actually prefer the auction to be hosted by administration and a percentage taken out to cover auction cost % ,or have both optional I will also like a response to late comers for christmas exchange or should I just do it as a give away |

James, I would hesitate a guess at saying no. The rules don't have any coddles. |

And I'll be with you. When I was about 9 and had just started stamp collecting I spent a couple of my precious pocket money pennies writing to Stanley Gibbons, the only stamp people I had ever heard of, enclosing a copy of the inscription on a stamp I had just obtained and asking them which country it was from so I could stick it in my Stanley Gibbons Album. For weeks I waited excitedly to get an answer. Of course I never did; and the fact that I hate SG now is not wholly coincidental. But I remember that incident whenever someone posts an ID question. I have no way of knowing if the writer is a nine year old schoolboy, the inhabitant of a remote village miles from any kind of library, or a complete tosspot who spends his time thinking 'What can I waste their time with now?' So I answer their ID questions. And like khj I often end up learning new things, or having to rethink what I thought I knew. The only exception I make is that I don't answer questions that ask for the value of a stamp; not because it's too complicated a process (though it is), but because the love of stamps is the job of philatelists and the price of stamps is the job of catalogues. |
