Here are a couple of postage stamps from Lebanon, overprinted for use as revenue stamps. I'm interested in learning the meanings of the abbreviations in the overprints.

1. What does "R.L." stand for?

2. What does "D.P." stand for? I'm guessing D = Droit and P = something.

Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Robert

"D.P." on this revenue stands for "Dette Publique", i.e. Public Debt.

I guess that "R.L." stands for "République Libanaise", i.e. Lebanese Republic.

I'm working my way through my accumulation of Lebanon stamps, back of the book material first, then definitives (I notice I have a lot of stamps depicting the Cedar of Lebanon), and commemoratives last.

Here are a couple more revenues:

I only have one example from that 1930-1940 postage due series, the 50c black on rose paper (Scott J29), unused but no gum.

I especially like the various commemorative series from the 1930s to the 50s that depict views of crusader castles, Roman ruins, modern government buildings, palaces, etc.

Cheers, Robert

Some more addressed here........

The Cedars of God is one of the last vestiges of the extensive forests of the Cedars of Lebanon (Cedrus libani ) that thrived across Mount Lebanon in ancient times. Their timber was exploited by the Assyrians, Babylonians and Persians as well as the Phoenicians. The wood was prized by Egyptians for shipbuilding; Solomon used them in the construction of the First Temple in Jerusalem and the Ottoman Empire also used the cedars in railway construction.
