Just sold my best U.S. Cover, now I'm regretting the fact that I did. On top of that, I think I gave it away. $79.00 I've had my eye on some new stamps, thus the reason to make a few bucks. I'll never do it again I can promise you that much. Did I sell this cover for way too cheap or get a fair price?

From someone who collects the 12c stamp on cover, I'd say that you were in the right ballpark. Maybe you could have gotten another $20 for it. The stamps are not in the best condition, the 15c rate is fairly common, the cover is kinda "eh" in condition (writing faint, couple of scrapes, postmark re-inked. You priced it to move (maybe 10-20% below full market value), and it did. Don't sweat it. Chip http://12c.cgpostal.com/ |

It all depends on the lower Stamp. If it's a Scott's 65, then like Chipg stated, Don't sweat it. If it's a Pink one, then you went way too low :)
Chipg, that is an absolutely stunning exhibit ! |

every 3c isn't a pink. There is a pencil "1863" at the lower left. That would virtually rule it out as a pink, as they were pretty well gone by mid 1862. C. |

Agreed with Chip, as I collect the 3c 1861 on cover. It could be a "Brooklyn Pink", which was the "pinkish rose" or "deep pinkish rose" of early-mid 1863, but both stamps would be definitely 65's, not any of the 64's. I've referred to the "Brooklyn Pink" several times in the past on SCF, and it's been described in the past in The Chronicle, which is the periodical/magazine issued quarterly by the US Philatelic Classics Society, USPCS, and one of the benefits of membership in the Society.
BTW, neither the pinkish rose or deep pinkish rose 65's of 1863 are rare or scarce at all.
Hope this helps, Thanks, Ray |

Thanks for the feedback, I'm 100% sure the 65 was indeed 65. I feel much better about selling it off.
What's a person to do in order to keep feeding their addiction for more stamps. |

The new issue (which arrived at my house a couple of days ago) has an article on the 3c 1861 pink and almost pink shades. As well as an article on he control number imprints on the 1861 issue stamps. (Along with much more). |

I bow to the others on the value of the stamps, but that crudely done 'improvement' where someone tried to 'repair' the York postmark is a real detraction and makes a person wonder whether someone might have done other inappropriate and less obvious things to the cover. Selling it at a discount because of that is what I would expect so I think you not only did okay, but perhaps a little better than okay. |

It IS possible that the postal clerk put the "k" in manuscript due to not getting a very good impression on the cover. |
