Note: Bumped thread Last Post 2012. Absolutely stumped. Spent a whole day Googling for this fellow. Believe Austrian Maybe section of a sheet. Checked : Albania, North Epirus, Lubeck, Montenegro, Lombardy Venetia, and Bosnia Herzegovina. Any help welcomed. Exists: Perf approx 14-15, and Postmarked. |

Rod, you may have a letter seal here. The apparent die-cut perforations and embossing lead me to this conclusion. |

Quote: Rod, you may have a letter seal here. Aha! never considered that. Thanks Bob. Would explain the Pmk evidence. Your solution amplifies the reasoning, of the greater the opinion base, the greater the accuracy. I recently saw a TV program, where a mathematician, asked a whole bunch of random people, to guess how much the Australian Monolith Uluru (Ayers Rock) weighed. I thought this was ridiculous, but the result was quite amazing, they (the mean of the group) got rather close to the professionally estimated. PS: Cannot be die-cut, the Postmark was 1800's. to me they look like they have been cut by a seamstress' "Pinking shears" Cannot be those either....they were invented in 1931 |

The crossed lines appear to be embossed, and they are narrow and pointed at the ends. They are not like anything I have ever seen on a stamp sheet's blank fields. Also, the "perforations" are distinctly pointed at the tips, as if they were all produced by a single cutting of each side, and definitely not torn/separated from a sheet. |

I agree with you Bob that those pointed perfs look odd but it looks very close to what is shown in this snippet from the 2014/2015 Austria Netto Katalog There are differences for instance the crossed lines are not pointed in the catalog illustration and Rod's has one white dot, catalogue has two. |

Wow! Wow! Gentlemen, thanks a huge bunch I spent literally hours searching for these fellows, I thought I was just chasing a dream. I OBVIOUSLY need a Netto catalogue. My instinct was to bid on these fellows, I had no reference at all, it was just a gut feeling, I was going to limit my bid to $80 Common sense prevailed, and I let them go, they sold for $45 I am so delighted to have them identified, I thought impossible. |

Very interesting, lithograving. Similarities, but also differences.
If Rod's stamp, or label is indeed perforated 14 horizontally, then it is much smaller than the items shown on the catalog page. |

Thought bubble: Perhaps the "dots" indicate plate numbers.
Bob, "my stamp" is an image lifted from a past Austria Auction lot, that sold for $1,200. This item was just on a page of its own, no commentary, no ID.
I recognised some bidders in my auction, so I knew something was up, just could not ID prior to the auction time.
First time I have seen these in 12 years of collecting Austria. Ergo, still a "newbie"

For me, this a major attraction of stamps. There is always something to "open your eyes". |

Quote: I OBVIOUSLY need a Netto catalogue. The ANK Österreich Spezialkatalog is a good catalogue and very helpful if you have some interest in Austrian stamps. Not perfect by any means but then again most catalogues have some errors and omissions. |
