Donato Bramante (1444 – 1514) was an Italian architect, who introduced Renaissance architecture to Milan and the High Renaissance style to Rome. His plan for St. Peter's Basilica formed the basis of design executed by Michelangelo. His Tempietto (San Pietro in Montorio) marked the beginning of the High Renaissance in Rome (1502). Vatican Post issued a souvenir sheet on May 20, 2014 to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the passing of Donato Bramante. The two stamps show his portrait and the spiral staircase he designed for the Octagonal Courtyard of the Belvedere (Vatican City). |
