Hi Everyone, I dearly love the foreign overprint stamps! Is there some books I can buy regarding just overprints? Thank you, SueStamps

found this link contributed by huckles888: http://www.gbos.org.uk/index.php/HomeI'd like to join the Society as they have a quarterly journal and a number of other publications for sale. I'm also getting very interested in French Colonies and their overprinted stamps. |

If you're really keen on overprints, you might like to have a look at this auction I'm running at the moment: https://goscf.com/t/26475 Guaranteed to be all overprints, and with some surcharges on overprints thrown in for good measure |

There is a collector in the next country town to me, who collects just overprints, dealers send him their circuit books regularly.
I hadn't realised so many people follow this path. Fascinating.

A very much overlooked area is the Japanese Occupation of the Dutch East Indies in particular and South-East Asia in general. Two books come to mind, 'Billigs handbook # 19' and a catalog of an auction held in the Netherlands in 1973: 'Dutch East Indies 1941-1945'. Both of these books are sometimes offered on E-Bay! |

raywrio From Linns.com: Quote: Any printing over the original completed design of a stamp. Many collectors like to separate overprints from precancels for various reasons. Maybe because there are zillions of precancels in the US alone. Never the less, they are accurately called overprints. |

Thank you so much for the name of the books. I have written them down and will search today! I need to look at my stamps closer, look at this stamp, I would never have guessed this was an overprint! You can see all of the Groszy overprint types here and scroll NEXT to see all: http://www.stampspoland.nl/series/g.../type01.htmlHere are a couple more from that site: |

Sue, I am partial to overprints also...who knows why ? I can help you with one country..Guatemala..they have a profusion of overprints as for some reason they always ran out of the common workhorse value and had to revalue higher value stamps, revenues and whatever else they had on hand...i have the books on Guatemala stamps..the scott catalogs can help you somewhat !! |
