These are curious, Rod. Are they North Korean? I don't see them in the Scott's catalogue in the 1940-50 period. |

The 100w purple is without question North Korea, but I don't find it in Scott; it may be a revenue or a postal savings stamp. |

Quote: In case anyone can read Korean.... Can't read Korean, but the online translation of the header says they are 3 kinds of North Korean revenue stamps from 1940-1950. |

Using Google translate, it does say "North Korea's revenue stamps, 1940-1950".
For what it's worth, it also says "jeungji three kinds - Mass solvents (VF)"
On a couple of other posts from that page, it also uses those same terms. Not sure what "jeungji" means -- Googling, it looks like it may be a proper name -- but, judging from the scans, "mass solvents" must mean "ungummed". I kinda like that term! |

Barefoot lists these revenue stamps as follows, left to right:
1. North Korea revenue: Barefoot #6 100w purple from c1950
There's a note in Barefoot that North Korea #1 to #10 "are only known unused and their status as revenues is not certain".
2. Municipal Revenue from Pyongyang: Barefoot #2 50w blue from c1960
3. North Korea revenue: Barefoot #15 200w orange "Railway Station" from c1955

Wow! What an excellent resource SCF is. Thank you one and all, that is grande work. You know, just a few years ago, without the internet or SCF, they would have languished back of book. We are so very fortunate.
Thanks team, you can now take the day off.
Nigel, you must have some sort of Library!

Rodney -- Did you ever get your question about these answered, perhaps in another thread?
I'm seeing this thread because I'm trying to do a little research of (South) Korean revenues, and just now encountered your post.
These are Japanese national pension stamps, part of a series issued from roughly 1961 to 1976. (The higher the denomination, the later the date.)
As Shimomura catalogs them (2003), there are 16 stamps in this particular series, ranging from ¥10 to ¥1000, all cataloging for minimal value -- ¥30 -- if used. Unused are higher, ranging from ¥50 to ¥2000.
There are 2 later series, where either the stamp size is larger, or else are entirely different designs. |
