Please allow me to bump this old but interesting thread.
I've entered the wilderness of the Small Queens - and would like to use a squared circle postmark as a timeline indicator for this stamp:

I believe the postmark would be Brockville, Ontario. I cannot read the year on the postmark, except the top of a '7' (or '3'?) , so I would like to know when the squared circle postmark was first used in Brockville. Can't find that info in Unitrade - so can anyone help on this?
I did however find a clue on this website:
http://www.ece.uvic.ca/~agullive/sq...d/type1.htmlIf I understand this info correctly, first known usage for Type I cancels was in 1893. If so, my stamp is probably postmarked in 1897.
My dilemma is that I think the orange shade and a faint 3 o'clock guide dot indicate the stamp to be from the middle Montreal (-1888) printings, and if so 1897 is quite a late usage for a stamp produced prior to 1888....and I do not manage to make sense of it all

That's a lot of confused thoughts from a confused Small queen newbie...please help!
