Trying to figure out if the description in Scott Catalog is right - perfs 9 1/4, 8 1/4, 8 1/4, 8 1/2, and 8 1/4 respectively. I think these stamps are paper backed self-adhesive. ( Canada Post sent gummed 9 1/4 version of 2426 - 2429; I think these may be variety i)

Thanks studystamps.

Apparently what I have is another variety - perhaps i

Scott 2426-2429
*water-activated gum
*perforated 9.25

Probably a dumb question, but if the nibs are the peaks of the perforations, how do some of the stamps you listed have perfs but no nibs?

Here are some pics ("picture is worth a thousand words"):

2424a (perforated, water-activated gum):

2425 (self-adhesive, from horizontal rolls of 5,000)
[there are no nibs on this variety; shown is a single on a black background and a strip of 4, as issued, on the original backing paper]

2426-2429 (self-adhesive, vertical rolls)
[because the stamps from these rolls 'touch' each other at the top and bottom, small 'joins' between the stamps (called "nibs") were purposely left during the die cutting stage to help keep the stamps together during shipping and the selling process. Nibs should not be confused with the peaks and valleys formed by the die cutting. Nibs are small paper fibers that will be left behind when a single stamp is removed from its adjacent partner. The nibs do not appear on every stamp.]

In the illustration below, the top stamp has 4 "nibs" while the bottom stamp has 5 "nibs"...

2430-2432 (self-adhesive, booklet pane of 6)
[The Permanent value was not issued in booklet form. All of the booklet stamps always begin with a valley at the upper left; except for the die cut to shape singles supplied in the Quarterly pack - those started with a peak at the upper left. The odds of finding the latter item used is virtually nil. There are no nibs on the booklet stamps.]
