It may take me four years, but I'll eventually get around to finding the answer :)

Creates more questions,
who designed it, where was it printed :)

The lass at Schroders has a fantastic job,
I was reading her blog, rather envious.

I'm sure it has kept you awake many a night!
for getting it done!

Nigel, now I know why I don't remember the stamp. I didn't start posting on SW until 21 days later. I missed the thread completely! I never realized you had started posting on SW before I did!

Yes, Kim, I see LB1 posted it on Stampboards one week later.

Great teamwork!

I went to bed last night with nothing, and woke up this morning to all this!

All hail, Klange.

Many thanks indeed, and congratulations.

Having now looked into the German Austria Republic I notice that the area included some bits of Carinthia which were subsequently part of Slovenia; so I'll hang on to the stamp.

I nearly made an expensive longterm mistake there. I've just realised (pardon my stupidity, but I'm only a poor little Yugoslavia collector dipping his toe in the big sea outside) that ALL 'Austrian' postals from Dec 1918 to the end of the Carinthia Plebiscite,(which marked the final border settlement of the St Germain treaty) were also issued by the German Austria Republic - hence all are either inscribed or overprinted Deutschosterreich. So if I keep this one, I'll need to collect 200 Austrian postals to keep it company

SO - KLANGE, if you would like the stamp free, gratis and for nothing, confirm here, email me your snail mail address and I'll send it to you.

If he doesn't want it - first come, first served on the same offer to anyone else who has contributed to this thread.

As an afterthought: Rod asks where it was printed. I think there is a good chance that, since the Deutschosterreich inscribed postals were printed at the Austrian State printers in Wien, this one was too - though that is not of course inevitable.

I'll be second on the list please ;)
But I'll defer if Nigel wants it,
not sure if he has one or not.

Thanks for the offer - very kind. But no, I'm not in need of it - simply enjoying the hunt. Now if it were still on some document or financial scrap something I'd probably take you up on the offer. So, off to the next person on the list!

Thanks, though!!

Kurt

OK. Rod, email me your snailmail and it's yours. I'm sure that Nigel has his own.

What a relief that Nigel already has one and Kurt doesn't want it.

If both Kurt and Rod both wanted it, I was worried that you might cut it in half so that...

...ugh, this brought back some bad memories about cutting some pretty good stamps in half. I was cutting some stamps off an album page, and forgot the album pages were double-sided.

Thanks very much

If Nigel wants it, and advises so, send it to him,
I emailed Caroline, but she is away on leave,
If any other news pops up, and you want it back...is OK :)

It is only one of two known copies in the world

Thanks folks but I'm happy with the copy I have already!

I need to try and find an Austrian revenue catalogue and see if this is listed (but I admit I've been telling myself this for years).

You mean there's a catalog not in your library? Say it isn't so!

Don't you just hate stamps cut in half?
