Go to your first post, click the edit icon (the pencil)
and change the thread title.

If you could also include SG please for Stanley Gibbons
that would assist me.

Done

I am also including three more images. The reason for this is that only an hour and a half ago, my wife and I got back from an antique show at the fairgrounds here and I was lucky to get these cards with "Paquebot" markings at real good prices.

Very nice bujutsu. Please forward the KGV one to me!

Here's a group of postmarks I picked up recently. All paquebots except for the railway one at top left

Nice Jubilee

I was amazed at the prices on the postcards in general at the show this evening.

I bought real old ship cards, some military that pre-date the First World War for $3.00 to $6.00 apiece. Can't beat the prices.

Oddly enough, there is a chromo card with the "MS Kazakhsrtan" passing the "Twin Towers". I can't make out the date in the cancellation; however, the writing on the back states July 2, 1978. That card cost me a whole dollar

Nice covers stallzer.

I particularly like the first one with the CDS "POSTED ON THE HIGH SEAS" with the R.M.S. Fort Victoria.

I have always found transportation postmarks fascinating.

Rod must be slipping. There was a time when he would have snuck in a picture of a ship or two.

Bujutsu: since you put on the great Gibbons display of ship cancellations I have been trying to remember where I had seen another good display of Canadian ones aside from those in the books that Jarrett and Boggs did.

It finally came to me last night. Years ago E.A. Richardson was a famous Canadian collector whose collection played a role in the history of Canadian cancellations. Maresch and Leggett, who produced the Canadian Specialized Postage Stamp Catalogues during the 1970s and early 80s, gave him high praise in that his material was the basis for much of their discourse on cancellations. Their intent, I think, was to introduce a new stamp numbering system to improve upon Scott's but the first few pages of their pocket-book sized catalogue displayed a great selection of ship cancellations. People familiar with Canadian auction houses will, of course, recognize the Maresch name.

I agree Cynical.

I am familiar with some of Richardson's publications. What you have stated sounds familiar regarding the Canadian "Paquebot" cancellations. I believe it was also E.A. Richardson that did a book on the "Flag Cancellations of Canada" as well plus the corks and fancy cancellations.

His "Paquebot" listing must still be available either on online philatelic reference dealers or on auction somewhere?

Will have to look at the auctions every now and then.

Anyone have any ship cancels from the Ocean Monarch? It cruised between New York and Bermuda during the 1950's and early 60's. My uncle worked on it for years.

Bruce: go for it! It only took me a week to master it and it's quite simple once you get the hang of it.

Apparently Gibbons have just republished the Paquebot book and updated it extensively
