Nice one Jubilee. I bet SS in general would be very hard to find any ship cancellations on. I just got this cover yesterday at a stamp show I went to in Owen Sound, Ontario. The only reference I can find to a ship with the name "Chandler" is that it was possibly a "liberty" ship during the war but converted to a passenger ship after the war and in peace time?? Not exactly paqueboat, yet ship-mail. What was it used for? Mail delivery between islands, or oversees? Or something official judging by the OS perfin. Please enlight! |

There is no "PAQUEBOT" marking in this cover, but I am sure it is posted onboard a ship, coz I posted it. I Joined my first ship as a Trainee marine engineer, on July 2005 from Singapore and vessel sailed to Europe , the ports we used to call in Europe were Feilxstowe, Hamburg, Rotterdam and Le Havre, I wrote a letter to dad and handed over to the duty officer on bridge, he laughed at me, coz posting letters from ship was getting rare even those days.. I have not posted another letter from ship after that and forgot about this letter, but yesterday while cleaning some old stuff I got this letter. The duty officer would have handed over the cover to agent and they posted it with their franking, the ship was "M.V.Long Beach Bridge" chartered by K-line. |

Quote: A nice find in the bottom of a box I've had since December!
Initial research states that the SS Marine Phoenix was in the reserve fleet in 1947 and should have been in California, not Sydney. More research required!
Sorry to quote myself, but thanks to a friend, I have the answer to what the Marine Phoenix was doing in Sydney! How good is this?? |

I noticed a few mire entries since I was last in to this thread. Thanks all for your input.
I guess I should check the old postings more often.

You will note in the 'Ship Marks' exhibit, the name 'Rugia; which is the ancient name for the island of Ruegen (Ru)(umlaut)gen) the northern-most island off the coast of Germany, to the east of Denmark, an island where the name 'Strohmeier' purportedly is as common as 'grains of sand on the beach.' |

Sorry if this question has been asked before: Do people still cancel stamps with Paquebot? if so, how do you get it? |
