Argentina Ministry Stamp

By decret of Executive authority of Argentina in 1913 May 13, resolved that, all stamp used by a Government use a special "Matasello" ( cancel ? )

"M.A" = Ministerio de Agricultura
"M.G" = Ministerio de Ganadería
"M.H" = Ministerio de Hacienda
"M.J.I" = Ministerio de Justicia e Instrucción Pública"
"M.M" = Ministerio de Marina
"M.O.P" = Ministerio de Obras y Servicios Públicos"
"M.R.C" = Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto"

Pablo, I believe "Matasello" means overprint. Have seen stamps of this kind and there are a lot of them. The cancel comes later, when the stamp goes through the mail.

I'm pretty sure Matasello does mean cancel. For example you could have Matasello circular con fecha: which is circular date stamp cancel or Matasello de barras: which is a barred cancel; with stripes.

Mkfarm, I don't read Spanish, I'm just going by what I know about stamps. These initials are overprints. I have seen them on mint stamps and they are on the stamps shown, apart from the cancels which are separate. Scott calls these initials overprints and lists stamps with them as both mint and used.

I wasn't arguing my friend. No questions the stamp is also an over print. However I just thought the word meant cancel and even with all of my Spanish I wasn't 100% sure of it.

In fact he might of meant the overprint and not the cancel. Which I think he did mean.

No offense meant and I hope none taken.
