I didn't get to go through all 3 pages on my cellphone so I'll apologize if this link has been posted before but it could prove useful.

Hi Everone, I am a new member of Stamp Community Family. I too have a couple of Harding Memorial Stamps and would appreciate any opinions? As you can see,one of them is poorly centred and has little ink staining on the back. Does anyone have any opions about the poorly centred one being a Rotary printing Scott 613? It was found when I purchased USA Stamps for my collection and was in an old shoe box with many other classic (but common) USA Stamps. An example of a 613 in an old shoe box seems like a dream come true or am I just kidding myself? Thanks Guys. David. Sydney Australia.

Welcome,
You might want to read this page on these 1923 stamps, http://www.stampsmarter.com/1847usa...ar/1923.html about half way down the page it discusses the Harding stamps.

Hi Don, Thank you for your input and the info about the Harding stamps. I guess that my examples are the more common ones however I think that I will get them appraised anyway by an experienced philatelis. Thanks again for your input. Cheers, David.

Hi revdoc
If you stick around, you'll find plenty of experienced philatelists on this board. You would be able to post a larger stamp image if you crop close to the stamp.

Hi Littleriverphil, Thank you for your comments about my two Harding stamps.I am not very computer literate, however I ll ask my son in law (who is computer literate and works for Qantas) if he can help me crop images. Meanwhile. I am posting the reverse of the stamps and I know that it can be hard to tell, as there is some hinge reidue but to the naked eye ink dots on the poorly centred example on the back are faint and on the (normal 610) you can see the outline of the stamp face fairly clearly. Not sure if this helps with identifying? are many 610 examples poorly centered? An account I read indicates the elusive 613 examples are notoriously poorly centered. Would be grateful for any further comments. Thanks, David.

I have one of the 2 cent Harding stamps too, I went to Don's Stampsmarter.com link, http://www.stampsmarter.com/1847usa...ar/1923.html
and with the information there was able to figure out mine is one of the over billion flat plate stamps of Harding kind to be issued. Just wanted thank 51Studebaker for the link. Julie

If a plate block # is 14938, is it certain to be a US 613 or can it be a 612?

Hi Phil,
You can quickly lookup any US plate number with this tool
http://stampsmarter.com/features/Pl...lock_PN.html

Enter the plate number and it will return the Scott number for any stamp that was issued with that plate number.

According to the stamp smarter plate# lookup tool, 14938 can be either #612 or 613 so it comes down to perf 10 or 11.
Is that perf 10 or 11 all around or just top or bottom?

Scott 613 day
Below are six perf 11 stamps.
The upper three have clear ink on the back. Out of the three, the first to the left has a vertical guideline, as well, on the left side.
The pair presents one spot on the back, which on digital microscope seems to be a very dark violet, like a marker or pen mark. It also has a guideline, as well, at the top.
The one at the bottom has no such ink.
None of the six stamps goes above 22mm in height.
Unfortunately, I don't have with me a rotary perf 10 to make a template. So, how can I make the difference between them, please?
Because on these stamps the difference between flat plate and rotary press is only 0,25 mm I wonder if paper shrinkage can cause a 610 and a 613 to have the very same dimensions? [I believe I read somewhere that rotary printed paper tends to shrink more than flat press, because of being forced to dry ...]
