Need help to identify Belgium stamp thought to be a revenue. Stamp is red/orange red with image of standing lion facing left with five-pointed star above with rays emanating down; imprinted at top "Belgique Taxes Fiscales belgie Fiscales Taxes"; overprinted "5Fr" and "40 -07/8056"; postmarked/cancelled "-2 A?? 193?" and Prosper GHYS8R5"; imprint "G?UNEUET".
Sorry, I have not yet figured out how to take and include a photo.

What you have described does sound like a Belgian revenue. I have a few, but I don't think I have an example of what you are describing.
Barefoot publishes a Benelux revenue catalogue, but I don't have it. |

Hi Donald,
Yes, this sounds very much as though it's the bottom half of the 5 franc Belgian (general) revenue from the 1931 issue. It's priced at 15 pence in Barefoot (with 45 pence for the whole stamp). |

Yes Bujitsu, these are similar complete Belgian revenue stamps from other series.
The first one is from 1936, the next one is from 1929, and the last one is from 1923.

Bujutsu: None of your three scans resembles the stamp I have. The lions shown in your scans are all heraldic-style lion rampant and the one on my stamp is a drawing of a true African lion. The inscriptions confirm that my stamp is a revenue stamp. I should note that it is perforated on all four sides, so it may or may not be the lower half of a larger stamp, as Nigel suggested. I don't see perforations between the upper and lower halves or your stamps.
Regards
Donald |

Quote: Write down ALL the words on your stamp, we'll figure it out. While it is true that we (and by we, I mean the rest of you) are pretty good detectives, a picture is worth a thousand words. (And a nice scan is worth two thousand...) |

Found it, everyone. Examples are for sale and/or auction in www.delcampe.net with 1,2,3,4 and 5 Fr overprints. One example is Item 181730802, listed by seller Natdupetca as Belgie OCB FISC and is a 1Fr example. Bidding starts at 0.11 euro. Nigel: You were spot on; that which I have is the bottom half only. Those for sale on Delcampe are complete stamps and some are on documents with 1933-34 dates. Thank you, all. Donald |

Thanks for that nigelc.
I don't have any examples of that particular revenue in my Belgian collection.

Nigel: Thanks; that's it. Please advise if you have the year of issue and/or the Barefoot catalog number.

Hi Donald,
These are long sets with many values. This 1931 set is Barefoot 165-211 with values from 5c to 2500F. Your 5F stamp is Barefoot 181 and the 1F stamp above is Barefoot 176. |
