I have been posting in the U.S. Classic forum.
So if you don't go there... My story is:
Dad passed in April. He was a stamp collector since
childhood. When he joined the Military around the
Vietnam era, he branched into U.N. stuff too.

He taught me almost nothing about the hobby.
He gave me some of the high points right before
he passed. He knew it was coming and wanted me to
be able to care for the collection. It wasn't nearly
enough time or info.

Anyway, I have been taking time now and then to search
through his stamps. They are spread out in about 20 books
and binders, as well as 3 boxes. I didn't think he had any
world stamps until I found these 31 envelopes this weekend.

The best I can tell, the stamps (both used and new) are
from the 40s to 60s. From the only dates I can see mentioned
on the envelopes, these stamps have been in these since the
early to mid-60s! 40+ years hidden away in these clear
envelopes. I have no idea when or where Dad got them.

Anyway, I am not going to dig through all 31 of these, or
even scan all of them. This is just a few off the top.
Just thought I'd share.

Unfortunately, I opened a couple of these, and the stamps
have been in them undisturbed so long that some are stiff
and sticking together. They peel apart from one I have
toyed with... but you have to be VERY slow and gentle.

I am figuring on just leaving them alone.

I am overwhelmed just dealing with the U.S. stuff.
I don't need this distraction.

Oh, wait, I just realized I lied...
I do know of one 'world' binder of Dad's. He got
into collecting Disney 'specific' stamps at the end.
He has a big binder of stamps with Disney characters,
with no boundaries. If they have Mickey or Donald, it
doesn't matter what country. So I suppose these aren't
the only worlds he had after all. I don't even concern
myself with the Disney collection. My 6 y.o. girl went
ga-ga over it and I told her she could have it in a
few years. I don't even want to deal with it, and she
might like the hobby.

Anyway... just sharing.
Dave

Stamps have that bad way of sticking together when they sit around a few years. I was lucky the one that did that with me were used so I just soaked them again.

Since then I have started to use stock books and make sure to keep them in a place with the proper humidity.

My daughter loves the foreign stamps too.

PS it looks like you have some rust marks on the glassine, you may want to transfer them to newer ones.

The Disney stamps from varied countries would be called a
topical collection, a collection that focuses on a single
topic or theme.

Well, I couldn't ignore them for long... You folks are
contagious! I have been focusing on Dad's stamps more
than my hobbies lately, and I am having fun.

The first glassines to get opened are Hungary and
Germany. Here are the Hungarians. If you know anything
about them, please feel free to post. I don't have a
world reference book, so I am flying blind on these.

I'll post the Germans soon. The Russian/USSR stamps
will go in the "From Russia with love" thread.

Turns out very few of these are stuck together as I
originally posted. It was like that in one envelope,
and the others appeared the same, in clumps, but weren't
stuck.

The Germans are about half and half pre-war, post war.
Some have over-stamps where it looks like they were
revalued for some reason. The post war stamps are both
east and west. There are a few Hitlers, one mint.

Anyway, here are the Hungarians:
I had to re-size the 2nd one a few times to get it to load.
So it is a bit fuzzy.

Here's the Monacos... They are REALLY high quality
stamps. They have an almost cloth like paper. Reminds
me of currency with fancy ink. Especially the royal
wedding stamps. The others are quality, but the wedding
stamps are seriously nice material, ink, and artwork.

They are all from the late 50s.
2 of these not pictured were stuck together.
I will have to gently steam them apart I suppose.

Here are some Germans...
I have them divided between WWII era and cold war
era. They are like all the others, go into the very
early 60s from all appearances.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. There were over
30 envelopes of these. Many more countries to scan.

I'll have to check. Truth is I probably wouldn't
know if I did! I don't comprehend any of the languages.

I know nothing about these, but they look neat.

Then we go 'down under'...
