The jamaca is probably a cutout from a newspaper wrapper. The purple Italian stamp has the denomination written out in Italian... Sadly I can't read Italian, so I can't really say which one it is, as I seem to have misplaced that book of my catalog. |

Sessanta is 60, so that looks like Scott 32. I agree that the Jamaica is a cutout, so won't be found in Scott. |

It's the 60 centesimi value of the 1863 series depicting Italian king Vitore Emmanuele II. Don't have my catalogue nearby, so I can't give you a value, but from memory I believe this is either the highest or second highest denomination in the set. |

Thank you everyone..now please correct me here if you could because when I lookin my Scott catalog for the value of that King V stamp, would I look first column becuase of its age or 2nd value column or would this stamp fall somewhere in between the highest vlaue and lowest/used value? I think I was told on the cut outs to look at the first price due to age,,is this correct? So if the Jamaica is a cut out,its still a stamp isnt it and has a value,,its rare I would certainly think?? |

First of all the cut out is Queen Victoria, George's grandmother. I guess it's the family resemblance. Cut outs, or cut squares as they are also called don't necessarily have a lot of value (of course there are always exceptions) but are certainly collectible. It has more value if you can get the entire piece. It has been suggested it may be a newspaper wrapper. Depending on the thickness of the paper it could also be a postal card (if thicker) or prestamped envelope. The left column in your Scott's catalogue is the price for an unused/mint example and the right number is for a used stamp. These values of course also depend on the condition of the stamp. |

The Scott catalogue has a section at the front of every volume that explains how the catalogue listings work, and has some general collecting information.
It is well worth your time to flip through it. It will be harder for us to describe how the listings work than to let the catalogue show you itself.
What the Scott catalogue won't discuss are foreign cutouts. They just aren't listed in Scott.
There is no reason to assume the Jamaican cutout is rare. Might it be rare? I suppose it is possible, to a specialist who might recognize something special about the die...but I highly doubt it.
Someone who took the time to recognize special items of postal stationery would probably want the whole envelope, card or wrapper.

James its not thick at all like like that of a post cardand its thicker/tougher so to say than newpaper..I didnt know they didnt discuss foreign cut outs in Scotts, been going through thousands of stamps here in last month or so I havnt seen any other cut outs than the slew of Franklins & Washingtons I found, but just here in last few hrs I found 2 5's and a 10 from Mexico so guess they are out there from all countries like you say and are all not considered rare Thank you all again for yet more learning info |
