I know, you can't tell colour over the web because of scanners and monitors. Well, I'm going to ask any way!
Going through some Australian stamps I have a number of George Vs. This 3p is a perf 14, therefore an SC#30. But I'm wondering about the colour. It's supposed to be ultra, and it looks more grey with a hint of violet. Maybe I have the wrong impression of what ultra is, but I don't think this is it.

Is this the result of sunlight or oxidation, or am I just wrong about ultra?

Gibbons seems to like 'dull ultramarine' for this stamp (if I'm identifying it correctly).

Bridger & Kay seems to offer 'dull to dark blue' and 'deep bright blue' and 'deep to bright ultra' and 'dull to deep ultra' for the perf 14...some variations in watermark. The year doesn't seem to narrow it down.

A specialist may know that we don't need to know this to i.d. your stamp, but just for kicks, what does the watermark look like?

That watermark knocks out the dull to deep ultra listing in Bridger and Kay.

B&K lists the 'dull to dark blue' and 'deep bright blue' as being printed by T.S. Harrison and the 'deep to bright ultra' as being printed by A.J. Mullett. (For what its worth, they say that the Mullett printings can be recognized by shiny gum, but obviously that won't help you with this one.)

Anyone else think this one is dull blue?

Colour is always in the eyes of the beholder, so, having stated this, I am leaning towards a grey-violet (?)

Hi jamesw

I call your shade Dull Blue.

Australia 3d Blues are very interesting issues. They are like no other Australia KGV's.

Being a Perf 14 it can be Single watermark or Small Multiple Wmk.

The thinness of the curves of the number 3's makes it a Die1 and not a Die11.

Because the E's in three are so uneven it is a Die1a and not a Die1

It is type A and not a type B because the dark shading from the King's eye to the bottom of his nose is not joined up.

More than my 2c worth. KGV
