All, I've recently inherited a few small booklets from my grandfather, containing MNH stamps from the People's Republic of China. Now, I am a new stamp collector, focusing exclusively on US postage only. Can anyone tell me what types of bids I can reasonably expect to receive for the 1980 'Exhibition of the People's Republic of China' set of 1626-1627 stamps? These are small sheets of 12 stamps each. These were purchased in NY for ~$500 from what my grandfather told me. My Scott 2009 vol. 2 book does not put a value on this set - only individual stamps ($0.80 for 1626 and $5.50 for 1627). Thanks in advance. Cardinal Bass

Thanks, Guy - but when I see things like $1,700.00, or $1,100.00, I get skeptical. I'd like to temper what I see out there with the opinions of this forum's members. There's a wealth of experience here that I won't get on ebay. All the best! Cardinal Bass |

I look at solds and not active listings. I always get a laugh at some of the outrageous prices for common issues, but You are right about the lack of valuable info on ebay. I've only been on here for a couple days and have already been impressed with the info in a lot of the posts. |

First I search for the stamp like above. And the list comes up. In the menus on the left as you scroll down, there is a menu that says show only. Check the box box that says completed listings. The same rules apply to ebay as that apply to real estate; the only price that matters is what someone will actually pay! These 2 listings show sold, one with a few bids and one with only one. I am always leary of single bid sales. It makes me think the seller did the opening bid on an alt account and it never sold. |

ZhangChen - Thanks - those are exactly what I have. I dropped-off the set at a stamp store for an offer. Here's hoping for good news!

I checked my 2011 Gibbons Part 17, and the full booklets are not listed. Also, CNY (yuan) today, 1.00 CNY = 0.16 USD (www.xe.com)
The owner should get Michael Rogers' offer before selling! |

Thanks, all! I've met with an auction house today (Dynasty Auction Company, LTD). A representative (extremely professional and courteous) came to my home to review the condition of the set, and was pleased with the material. He said it will be listed on an auction lot hosted in Hong Kong in January. The lot will start at ~$1,500.00, and will not sell for less than half if there are no bids for that amount. I can say I was pleasantly surprised, and will let everyone know how I fare!
All the best,
