Was able to purchase a few covers yesterday at the stamp club bourse. I won't bore you with all of them, but I thought these two were nice.
After floundering for a while over what to look for I decided to concentrate on the area of the Niagara Region, where I grew up. Then it became easier!
The first is a stampless cover from 1841 postmarked Niagara U.C. (Upper Canada) on May 28. The sender is John Lyons, a prominent lawyer and land register of time. The home he built is now a B&B, and historical site in the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The recipient is Samuel Street, and equally pominent business man and land speculator who was a major investor in the building of the first Welland Canal. The letter discusses possible land purchases in the area.

The second sports an, as yet unidentified, small queen and is postmarked in St. Catharines (my hometown) on May 31 1892. It is sent from a man named E. Atkinson to General A. St. Clair Denver in Washington City, District of Columbia. It is backstamped in Buffalo (transit) May 31, Rochester June 1 and Washington June 2.
The handwriting, though beautiful, is hard to figure out so that will take me some time.
Haven't been able to find out much about General Denver yet.
