Do any of the rest of you have difficulty limiting your collections? I find the more I get into my collection, the harder it is to "hold the line".

I told myself I would limit my collection to pre-1950 airmail issues. But, then I came across a 1948 Madagascar airmail overprint which turns out to be the forerunner of the French Southern & Antarctic Territories. So, I looked up the FSAT in my catalog and found that the first airmail stamps were not issued until 1956. Oh, they are absolutely stunning engraved little pieces of art! I could not resist. I had to allow a small exception to my rule so that I might include some of these beauties in my collection as well.

And, so the journey continues. My collection takes me to places I had never imagined. And, although I have set some collection parameters, I am always open to surprises that might be around the next corner.

I think you should keep these beauties in your pre 1950's collection! The are great! Did you make your own album pages, and what did you use?

Yes beautiful pages. Exhibition quality with description. I make my own page for my Europa collection, using Albumeasy, but they don't look as fancy as yours.

What limit my stamp collecting addiction (a good one) is the cash available to satisfied it. But for a topical collection you have to set a limit sometime. For airmail pre-1940 or pre-1950 is great. Otherwhise your collection can grow very big. I'm thinking about Latin countries airmails, there is just to many.

My collecting interest have no limit so when cash is available I start a new country or topic. Sometime when i'm broke I sell a collection. Since I came back to stamp collecting 6 years ago I had 6 country collection and 4 topical collections. Happy stamping. Daniel

Thank you, Peter...

Yes, I did include these stamps in my airmail collection. It would have been a shame to have a whole page with only one Madagascar stamp on it!

I do design pages for all of my collections. You can find more information in another posting.

Thank you, Daniel....

I also collect Europa!

I loved the border on the White Ace pages, but I did not like the way they arranged the layouts by year. I prefer to collect chronologically by country. Then I really liked the layout of the Minkus album, especially with the collateral material being displayed as well.

So, I took the White Ace border and inserted the Minkus layout. The result is:

Therefore, the sky is the limit as to how we want to collect. We should not be bound by how album or catalog publishers think collections should be arranged.

How can something that feels so good be wrong?

Now, on the odd chance you were looking for a little bit of an intervention, page one was great, but page two was just a little over the top. 1965? Seems like a cry for help.

Just sayin'.

As a collector of France mainly for the beautiful engraved issue it is very difficult not to get dragged into the colonies and TAAF/FSAT issues as they are equally beautiful.
It is a shame TAAF are pretty expensive though.
