It was suggested to me that the stamp on the left is #52 (violet brown) and the stamp on the right is #51 (umber brown). They look alike to me. Does anyone have a thought or another scan?

Hi Scouter...It is very hard to determine colour difference with some stamps...:et me try some thing new and if it works it might be a tool for future use...We know that when you mix colours with other colours, you will get a NEW colour, sooooooo what I did in my software I use, add colour and as you can see the stamp on the left has more BLUE dots and the one on the right has more GREEN dots....Maybe that is an indicator that those two stamps are a different colour...?

I'm certainly no expert, but they look very similar to me. I copied your image onto my computer then overlapped them, and except for a very slight tonal difference, I think they are the same. If anything one might be a 51 umber brown and the other a 51a brown.
The 52 violet brown is, according to Unitrade 'generally brighter than the original'.
I don't see 'brighter'.

Guess it would help if I added the picture.
