To be honest, the stamp itself looks a bit "suspect" to me. I'm not in any way a collector of that area, so I'll defer to those who are. One of the things that strikes me funny, which I see often on Spanish forgeries, is that faint guide line in the upper margin. That non-descript cancel just kind of screams Spiro to me.
I was so focused on the cancel that I didn't pay any attention to the stamp, itself. I agree it is a forgery.
Album Weeds has a number of spotting features, including: litho instead of engraved (this example is definitely not engraved); 'pence' or 'penny' touches the outer line of the garter border; the front and top of the crown, and the back of the hair, just touch the edge of the oval border; straight, pointed nose. The higher values have differences in the ornaments and garter buckle, too.
The good Reverend also says that he thinks they came from Hamburg, but agrees that they have the look of Spiro's handiwork.
I assume these were made as typical filler material, and not intended to fool the authorities.
[edit: I'm also assuming that my forgery matches the forgery discussed in Album Weeds, as the spotting features appear to match. There could, of course, be others.]
