Here is an image of a semi-postal (charity) stamp depicting the Winterberg Monument, a war memorial inaugurated in 1874 to commemorate the victory of Prussia over France at the Battle of Spicheren on August 6, 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War, designed and engraved by French artist Roger Fenneteaux (1913-2000), and issued for use in Saar on October 29, 1956 as one of a set of three similar stamps benefiting monument rebuilding funds, Scott No. B113, Michel No. 375, plus an image of a photo of the extant memorial plaque for the original monument, which was demolished by the Germans for military strategic reasons in 1939 after the outbreak of World War II. - nethryk  |

Here is an image of a stamp commemorating the 40th anniversary of the the Battle of Monte Cassino, Italy (January 17 – May 18, 1944) and the soldiers from the Polish II Corps who successfully assaulted the German defenses to gain the Allied victory, designed by Stefan Malecki (1924-2012), printed by photogravure, and issued by Poland on May 18, 1984, Scott No. 2623, plus an image of a photo of the campaign medal awarded by the Polish Government to a soldier of the 5th Engineers Battalion, 5th Kresowa Infantry Division, obverse (top left) with the inscription "MONTE CASSINO MAJ 1944" and reverse (top right) with the serial number of the medal. - nethryk  |

Here is an image of an airmail stamp depicting the destruction on September 6, 1902 of the Haïtian Navy's flagship, La Crête-à-Pierrot, and (inset) a portrait of Hammerton Killick (1856-1902), an admiral in the Haïtian Navy who was killed in this action during the 1902 Firmin rebellion when he refused to surrender the Haïtian gunboat to the German warship SMS Panther, engraved and printed by American Bank Note Company, and issued by Haïti on September 6, 1943 as one of a set of seven similar stamps, Scott No. C22, plus a photo of Admiral Hammerton Killick. - nethryk  |
