Here is an image of a stamp honoring Able Seaman William Edward Hall VC (1827-1904), the first black person, first Nova Scotian, and third Canadian to receive the Victoria Cross, who was awarded the medal for his heroic actions in the 1857 Siege of Lucknow during the Indian Rebellion, printed by lithography, and issued by Canada on February 1, 2010, Scott No. 2369, plus images of a photograph of William Hall which was surely a model for this stamp's design, and a photo of Hall's Victoria Cross. Note: I suspect that the sailing ship in the background of this stamp's design is HMS Rodney, in which William Hall served in 1854 during the Crimean War.

This postcard and the privately overprinted Belgian stamps were produced to commemorate the opening of the Bastogne Historical Center on July 16, 1950. The Center honors the brave American soldiers who fought and died in Germany's last major offensive of WW II, and features large dioramas of battle scenes of the "Battle of the Bulge". The Bastogne Historical Center is the star-shaped edifice in the center of the card.

There are several other overprint designs, but unfortunately I cannot put my hands on them (too many stamp boxes) at the present time.

Agreed, looks like 2 decks of cannon, 3 masted.

Rodney was the ship where William Hall, later to become the first Black man and one of the first Canadians to win the Victoria Cross, began his naval career in 1852.

Both the semi postal stamp (Facit Finland #783, 15 January, 1976) and the two cinderellas bear the emblem of the Disabled Ex-Servicemen's Brother Association. The semi postal stamp was issued to honor war invalids and to "help a national fundraising campaign for special hospitals for war invalids (Facit)".

The cinderella stamps celebrate the 30th and 35 anniversaries of the organization.

On July 1, 1987 Singapore commemorated the 20th anniversary of national (military) service with the issuance of a 10c stamp in 4 different designs. A souvenir sheet of five 35c values of the same designs plus the Singapore lion symbol was also issued on that date.

Here are images of a stamp featuring a portrait of Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885), an American soldier and statesman who served as Commanding General of the Army, and later President of the United States, designed by Mark Hess, printed by photogravure, and issued by the USA on June 29, 1995 as one of 20 stamps in a pane commemorating the American Civil War, Scott No. 2975d, plus a photograph of General Grant standing next to a tree in Cold Harbor, Va. in June 1864 by Matthew Brady (1822-1896) which was a model for this stamp's design, and a commemorative Civil War first day cover bearing this stamp, with a cachet.

Advised by an astute member of SCF, we need a correction.
Not HMS Rodney
HMS Shannon.

The commemorative stamp issued in his honour features an illustration of an older, decorated Hall, created by Suzanne Duranceau and based on a photograph taken circa 1900 in Nova Scotia. "Illustration has the power to enhance a visual experience," explains designer Lara Minja of Lime Design Inc. "The colour and fine detail add a degree of richness and intensity otherwise lost in an archival photograph. It also makes it possible to combine different elements to tell a story." In this case, Hall is shown against a seascape, with the HMS Shannon in the background. He is wearing his Victoria Cross, the Indian Mutiny Medal, the Turkish Crimea Medal and the Crimea Medal. "This is a proud, heroic moment for him later in life," Minja says of the image. "This feature is extended onto the pane, which tells the story of his life."
