Very true Wert I support our veterans and I am a Canadian Legion associate member. Here is a military badge that I think is identical to the one that the gentleman in your scan is wearing. This is from my collection of Canadian military cap bands and flashes. Chimo Bujutsu |

It was December, 1989. I was nestled in my bed, dreaming. Something awoke me. I don't recall what. There was a moment of silent . . . expectation? Then came a thwoomph! In a wink I was up from my bed wondering what could have caused such a sound. Was a giant jungle yeti pounding on my roof? Then another thwoomph! I came to full wakefulness and realized there were no such things as jungle yetis. I quickly found the rest of the family huddled in another room, and advised them that due to bombs we should be on the lowest level of the house, ground floor beneath the windows. After the next thwoomph larger and smaller arms fire began to poke through the haze in my mind. There was a war, and it was right in my neighborhood.
This was Operation Just Cause. December 20, 1989. Republic of Panama.
I lived less than a mile from a reinforced military compound belonging, in essence to Manuel Noriega. A mile further was an entire Panama military base, and headquarters of the Panamanian military. Two miles away was another large military outpost. I was in the middle of the action.
Mortars, 50-cals, 250lb bombs, other small arms all were put to use within a short stroll of my home.
Despite all that particularly military activity, no homes were harmed because my neighborhood was protected by the US Army. Both entrances were guarded with heavily armed assault vehicles and soldiers with orders not to let any pass without proper identification.

I think you are correct Bujutsu...Looks like the same badge. I have all my Dad's medals WWII and my Grand dad's WWI medals.
Also have a "1941 Mussert cross"...Pretty valuable.

I was indexing my Canadian military mail collection today and came across this one cover from WW I. It was used by the 48th Highlanders. I thought it might be apprpriate to add to this thread. Chimo Bujutsu (Close-up of the cancellations) Logo on the back of the cover |

Hi Wert and All It will still be some time before I can get all of my collection indexed. In doing so, I come across items that I hope the SCF members will like to see. So, while we are still on the topic of the 48th Highlanders, I thought I would show this cover as mounted in my album. Chimo Bujutsu |

I noticed that the unit cancel does not show well, so, here is a close-up of it here. The cancel is somewhat feint on the cover anyway. Chimo Bujutsu |

Shotwell is cool software -- but remember, it only works on Linux, not on any version of Microsoft Windows.
