Hi All This is a cover I bought a number of years ago. I broke down the route that this cover took during WW I and in all, there are 29 cancellations on the cover. There are 4 that I cannot make out at all so I designated those cancels as numbers 1 to 4 and continued with a break-down from 5 to 24. I scanned the B/W section from my CMMSG journal because it was an article I submitted for them back in 1980! A lot of work went in to this cover. I took the easy route to bring everything in here Chimo Bujutsu

WOW! I guess even the army post office is a stickler for chain of command. Very, very interesting cover. |

How on earth did the postal service follow that mess of addresses?
I certainly hope Lt Thomson got his letter. He probably could have really used one after being wounded at least twice. |

How true.
I gave up on 3 or 4 of the cancels because they intertwine with each other. I was a good hour and more trying to decipher the route. I sure am glad most covers only have a few lol.
Oh well, this is all part of the fun of postal history.

Now that's dedication to get the Lt. his mail. It was 1916 and I guess he was in the thick of it. |

Hi Bujutsu,
Can you explain the rate paid? I know very little about mail from Canada to servicement during WW1.
GREAT cover!

Appears to be 2c for a standard letter within the Commonwealth, plus 5 cents for registration? |

The rate for this cover, in my research anyway, would be 2 cents domestic rate plus 4 cents registration because we have to keep in mind that there is also a War Tax stamp applied and this was 'voluntary' for the sender. So, the extra 1 cent would have been towards to war effort as per the WT stamp usage (?)
Thoughts and comments appeciated.
Thanks all for your input.
