Any body recognize these overprints? As I recall, we just had a post about this postmark being a fake. If so, is the overprint a fake as well? I believe the first is 'NORTH WESTERN GAS BOARD' and second is 'SOUTH END ON SEA.'
These are stamps used by different companies for fiscal use, on official documents,Bills etc. They are then signed over as in your 2nd example. Occasionally handstamped. I will try to find a few examples on document or piece. They are overprinted for security reasons, much the same way as Perfins are/were, except the Overprinted examples were not used for postage.
I was born in Southend-on-Sea ! The 'Corporation' is the local council. In those days, everything in Southend was 'Corporation' this or 'Corporation' that.
Stamps with these commercial overprints were valid for use as postage stamps for a short period after the 2d receipt duty was abolished as of 1st February 1971. If this slogan postmark was in use in that period them I would expect the postmark and overprint both to be genuine.
The slogan is genuine, although I think it's from the early 60's. It says something like "do you have your liscence for radio and tv?". I have a cover with that cancel somewhere, I think....
