I will be sorry to see the incandescent bulb go before they were able to perfect the "tri-light". Who knows, maybe someone will still work on that one.
You might want to hold off on a purchase. The latest light technology FIPEL (field-induced polymer electroluminescent) should be hitting the shelves soon.
Resurrecting this thread. I have been using an architect desk lamp for my stamp work with an incandescent 75 watt bulb. That lamp fell apart today. I went to Walmart and found something similar but... shade and part of the assembly are made of plastic. They suggest a 40 watt bulb- that is a no go for me and even at that I think the shade would get too hot. It is like a toy lamp, cheap Chinese junk. Every such lamp they had there was like this, plastic shades. I may run to Home Depot tomorrow and see what they have. I do not want to use an LED light, they create radio interference. Short wave radio is my other hobby.
I bought an Ott Lite desk lamp (LED) a few years ago and have been very happy with it. Until last Saturday when it went dark all of a sudden. The packaging says the bulbs last 40,000 hours and I certainly haven't used it for nearly that long. Not too concerned, I tried to go order a replacement bulb and found out the LED lights are not replaceable, I have to buy a whole new lamp. Seriously? The Florescent OTT bulbs are replaceable but not the LEDs. Has anyone else had this experience? Should I buy the same replacement lamp with LEDs or should I switch to florescent?
The light went off after using it for about an hour. I always use it at the middle of the 3 brightness settings. I checked the power supply with a volt meter and it still has 5.5v so it must be the lamp not the plug or power supply. Anything else I can check? Thanks for any advice.
I bought 2 of these a bit ago when on sale. It has a dimmer and can change hues. Not sure on the lighting spectrum / temp - but - for me it's ok and plenty of bright enough as I have trouble with shades/colors anyway.
