A lot of the regular issues were overptinted locally and can be found in specialized catalogues only.

Usually, the "PORTO" and "T" overprints were designated as "Postage Due" stamps and most catalogues will not list them. Hopefully, someone more informed in this country can elaborate more in here (?)

First Hungarian Postage Due stamp (PORTO) appeared in 1903. Till then such overprints were used instead. I`d say these are handstamps used by post offices instead of postage due stamps.
Indeed there is a local `PORTO` overprint from 1919- Romanian occupation of Temesvar (Timisoara), but the difference is that the `MAGYAR KIR. POSTA` inscription is blurred.

Bujutsu,

Yes... and I don't have that specialized catalog. I was hoping someone's got it. The Czech due stamp overprint also have "T" "Porto" "P" or even "D" (probably from the Czech Doplatit). Actually, there are countries that still use "T" for postage due, but not overprinted of a stamp like these.

Wadmalatz,

Romanian occupation, are you talking about this?

I'm sure I have some more of this but I can't find the stockbook.. But I surely didn't know about the local due stamp of Temesvar. Thanks for the info. Are they overprinting "Porto" over an overprint?

Your`s is a `Nagyvárad`- Oradea occupation. In 1919 the following Romanian overprints on Hungarian stamps:
-Debrecen
-Kolozsvar - romanian Cluj
-Temesvar - romanian Timisoara.
Serbian overprints:
-Temesvar - Timisoara
-Banat- Bacska
Croatian ovpt.:
-Fiume
Also French occupation.
Some of my stocbooks are not here right now, but soon I`ll come up with more information about postage due and post I WW (local) overprints.
Anyway, due to the inflation after I WW postal rates were changing fastly, so many `PORTO` stamps were needed (stamps from the `Harvester` sets were overprinted bw. 1919-1925 with violet `PORTO` inscription and new value. In the meantime probably such handstamps were used too. Here is one I found (first row) probably from 1918 (ovpt. `REPUBLIC` - `KÖZTÁRSASÁG`)

Thank you for the detailed info! So from what I understand, each occupation area may have their own local due stamp as well. Interesting! Your upper center stamp's "Porto" overprint looks just like the one I have. Do you know in which occupation area was this stamp issued?

Hungarian `Postage Due` (PORTO) stamps 1903-1945.

First Hungarian `Postage due` was issued in 1903 (for a comparison- France 1859 / Italy 1863/ Romania 1884/ Austria(!) 1894). Of course the postage due was applied, but marked with handwriting, different handstamps etc.
Sorry for the quality of some stamps, but right now I have only these to scan.

1903/1905/1908/1909/1914 issues- same design, different perforations -green background, BLACK numeral (as the first stamp 1/1)
1915 - new value, red overprint - `20` on 100 filler
1915 - same design, RED numeral (first row, stamp 2)
!! 1918! ANSWER TO THE QUESTION!! - as stocks of the `Postage due` stamps ran low (due to the constantly changing postal rate) Hungarian Post issued an order at 15.06.1915 allowing usage of postage stamps as `PORTO`. These stamps were marked with capital letters of `T` or `P` or with the inscription `PORTO`. Many post offices handstamped or marked postage stamps in advance. Different kind of markings were used, but these stamps (as presented by Prahanoaki or first row 3 stamp) are not considered local overprint, as thee were officially ordered by Hungarian Post. The order was short-lived, by mid-november 1918 these `auxiliary` Porto-stamps were prohibited. ONLY MENTIONED IN `HUNGARIAN STAMP CATALOGUE` , BUT NOT LISTED.
1919 - `KÖZTÁRSASÁG` (Republic) ovpt. First row stamp 4
1920 - same design, again w. BLACK numeral
1920 - `TANÁCSKÖZTÁRSASÁG` red oveprint oveprinted with black weat ear -as on this postage stamp:

1921-1925 red overprint (PORTO & new value) on `Harvester` set, second row stamps 1-2
1926 - new design, second row stamps 3-4
1927 - overprint on 1924 `Icarus` stamps, second row stamp 5
1931 - black ovpt. on 1926 postage due, third row stamp 1
1934 - new design blue, 3 row stamp 2
1941 - new design brown, 3 row stamp 3
1945 - previous overprinted, 3 row stamp 4

Local (occupation) overprints from 1918 will come bit later, but again these handstamped `POSTAGE-DUE` (Porto) stamps were generally used bw. June 1918 - mid-November 1918 in Hungary.

edit: Prahanoaki, the first three stamps and the last comes from pre-handstamped (marked in advance) unused sheets. Probably there is a slight difference bw. the handstamps used by different postoffices, still it is impossible to say which post office in hungary made them - not listed in catalogues. Catalogues also mention, that these `auxiliary` porto stamps generally appear on `philatelic` covers (lower rate on purpose, so the collector would get a `Postage due` cover). All can be said for sure is the date: Hungary, `auxiliary` Postage due, bw. 15.06. 1918 - cca. 15.11.1918.
