Hopefully someone can help with this one. I have a large collection of the 43 cent Canadian flag issue Unitrade #1359.

The Unitrade 2013 catalogue states on page 281 that the Ashton-Potter and CBN examples cannot be differentiated on used copies.

Having gone through many, many copies looking for double prints, I noticed that some copies have a bluish tinge to them, while the usual colour is brown. The catalogue makes no mention of colour variances.

Does anyone have plates or sheets of these stamps and can take a look to see if there are indeed colour variances? I can forward scanned copies if necessary.

Thank you

There are very slight colour differences between the 3 printers
from the mint and used stamps I have but nothing
with a bluish tinge as you say.
But then again I dont have hundreds or thousands as you probably have.

Bewlow is a scan of the 3 printer examples I have which don't
look much different than the others I have.

On this thread I have a few more but no blue.
Guess I'll take another look at what I've got.

Very nice!

From Litho's scans, I can tell the three apart....just.

I have a bunch of these too and will check tomorrow...well, it's Flags after all !

For the 39c, 40c and 43c Flags, the AP and CBN printings are very difficult to distinguish when they have the same paper type and same perforation. The only possible difference I have found is that the AP printing usually has glossy reflective tagging, seen best when viewed at an angle to normal light, while the CBN printing it is virtually invisible to the naked eye.

There are so many shade varieties within each printing that they cannot be used consistently to identify the printing.

I certainly won't beat on the flag of course but the back drop on this issue is as boring as driving the trans Canada highway through saskatchewan. Funny thing is all I remember of SK is the rolling fields that went on forever yet I sell a POOP load of fishing lures there. I think they catch loaves of bread in those fields.

BC you are 100% right on there.

When printing hundreds of millions of these definitives it would be
impossible not to have some colour differences.
Besides lot of it depends on quality control too.
Maybe Canada Post pays the printers less for definitives
than those sexy commemoratives and in return gets a
lower quality product.
