For those who may not realize it, this coming week we will have the unique date of December 12, 2012 upon us and postmarks bearing the date 12-12-12 may be collectible to some, as that becomes the last "triple date" of the century bearing the same numerals in the "mm/dd/yy" positions.

Are you planning to save any special postmarks with that date on it?

Hey, that would be a great day to get a nice hand cancel or two! Oddly enough, I got a postcard in the mail today with a postmark that almost fits into this thread... It was mailed from Russia on November 22, 2012...

For those so inclined, the latest Postal Bulletin has announced this special pictorial cancel for 12/12/12, and you have 30 days after the date of use to send in requests for the postmark, too:

Might make for an interesting keepsake.

Funny you should bring this up.....

My son and I were just brainstorming ideas in the car about covers we could make for this date. He suggested the 12 Apostles and the 12 Days of Christmas. My suggestion was Aaron Rodgers, the Packer's quarterback who is number 12 (and mighty cute ).

Any other ideas for the number 12?

Okay, I admit I cheated a bit!

This is taken from a website on the significance of "12" as in the year "2012":

1. With the exception of a few Latin American countries such as Argentina, Bolivia and Panama, most schooling systems worldwide have 12 grades.

2. There are twelve function keys (F1 to F12) on most computer keyboards.

3. 12 months make a year; 12 inches make a foot; 12 pennies made a shilling.

4. Alcoholics anonymous, the international alcohol de-addiction movement, outlines 12 steps and 12 traditions to get rid of alcohol addiction.

5. Western music divides an octave into 12 notes.

6. There are 12 face cards in a card deck.

7. There are 12 jurors in an American Jury in a felony trial.

You came up with some good ones, WT1!

I was just working on the 12 days of Christmas idea, when I was hit with a brainstorm- 11 years too late.

Wouldn't it have been neat to have done one day for each year starting in 2001? For example, 01-01-01 would be the partridge in the pear tree. 02-02-02 would have been two turtledoves. 03-03-03 (which is actually my older son's birth date!) would have been three French hens. Etc., etc., etc., I'm sure someone had this thought back then and maybe we'll see a set of covers soon. I just wish my name was on them!

I even have booked in a time at the local PO to get my 12.12.12 cancels.

When our PO asked how many items I wanted canceled they suggested I come down at 1 min after midnight. I am glad he said it with a smile on his face.

The 11.11.11 has been a very popular cancel.

12 in a dozen unless your a baker. The average shoe mfg goes to sz 12 . Day is 12hrs night is 12 hrs. Of course beer comes in 12 packs. A gross is 12 units of 12 although not used much anymore. Were taught multiplication up to the 12 times table . Keep this going theres gotta be more ironies of 12.

The boys and I spent the entire morning working on covers. We are going to have lots of school work to catch up on tomorrow! Anyway, here's what we did:

This first set has 3 that the boys colored. They each did one for "12 Drummers Drumming" and one for the 12 Apostles.

This second set has 2 for Aaron Rodgers because it's "Aaron Rodgers" day in Wisconsin and one of Our Lady of Guadalupe whose feast day is today.

We took them to the post office for hand cancelling. They let the boys do their own covers. Unfortunately, none of their cancellers were working very well.

Wellp, I was a bit unhappy when I was reminded that modern cancels no longer use just numbers... I didn't get 12/12/12!! Oh well...

Oh, to add insult to injury, the envelope was kept in perfect condition the whole day... until I brought it into the house. Somehow, despite all my planning, a small drop of coffee landed on it!

Just my luck...
