I've read that the Scott U.S. National Album is the most complete, which implies that the Minuteman album omits some stamps. Is there a list somewhere of what is included in the National but not in the Minuteman? Is it just back-of-the-book categories or in the main portion?

I read thru the album review threads, and didn't find an answer. If this has been addressed, I must not be using the correct search terms, and would be pleased to see a link to the appropriate discussion.

Hi MrEos

I would be surprised if such a list exists. It would require one sitting down with both albums and going through them page by page and recording any differences.

In general the National is most complete with varieties and such. The Minuteman omits some varieties, maybe all but the major ones.
I believe it does have pages for all Scott listed stamps. Someone correct me if I am wrong as the last time I looked at a Minuteman was 2 years ago.

Here is a thread comparing both albums. I'm not sure if it contains everything you're looking for.

I was hoping someone had put together a list of stamp numbers omitted from the Minuteman. I had searched and read the album reviews which don't provide that info. This is mostly a matter of curiosity. I'd be surprised if anything omitted in the Minuteman is obtainable by the unwashed masses. Afterall, it includes spots for the 5c Washington/Franklin color errors, and the 1789B John Paul Jones perforated 12x12, thus insuring that those pages will never be completed, at least in my album. If they include those, it's a little hard to imagine what they omitted.

I can sum up for you (from memory) what's different between the two.

1) All 19th century special printings are not included in the minuteman pages (1875 reprints, etc).

2) Philatelic rarities ('Z' grills, rare coils like 321-322, etc)

3) All major errors (Scott 119b, 120b, 121b, 294a, 295a, 296a, 505, and so on) are not included in Minuteman.

4) Coil pairs are not included in Minuteman(spots for most coil singles are provided).

5) Gutter pairs/blocks (Farley's follies)

6) Full sheets (State birds/flowers, state flags, etc) are not included in my 25 years old album, but I can't confirm if that has changed. Spots for singles exist.

I'm sure I missed something. Scott National has/had a spot for all of the aforementioned. I can not say if the latest iterations do or not.

Brian

Thanks, Rileysan. Your list from memory is pretty accurate. I note that my Minuteman album (which is the newer style with 3-hole punch and green binders), does have spots for Scott #322 (but not 321) and the 5c Washington errors - #467 & 505. As a compulsive spot filler, I sort of wish it didn't.

Thanks. It would look a lot better with that empty spot filled. Anyone have a used 505 they're willing to donate to the cause?!

Nice stamp. But it looks unused. I suppose you could stick it on an envelope and send it to me, but I wouldn't want to risk someone cancelling it with a marker. Oh well... I'll just have to learn to appreciate the blank spot on my page for now.
