MOSS - wellp, I left the house at about 9:15am, headed west. Got to Staples 14.5 miles away, realized I forgot my mail and some other things at home. Left Staples, drove home. Got forgotten items. Drove BACK out to Staples. Then hit Harvard, then Shirley, Westford, then Carlisle on the way home.

I just used a nifty website to try and figure out how many miles I covered. The total seems a bit high (96 miles??), but computers are never wrong

Here is a link to my trip:

I also got photos of 2 freight trains during my travels!

how did you guys get to walk out with your 12-12-12 cancels? Do you just ask the postmaster to cancel them and you walk out with it?

I wish my local Post Office had a better hand stamp...... At least they let me hand stamp my own items, now if I could only see where the makeshift perforations were...

I think Canada Post may have made new rules regarding hand cancels. I went to a shoppers (drug Store) postal outlet today after realizing my local Mac's Milk Variety store outlet was now closed down as well as the Local Home Hardware Postal Outlet that had been around for 20+ years. So with no alternatives I politely asked the postal lady at the drug store if she could hand Cancel the few items I had. She looked at me like I came from another planet so I explained what a hand cancel was and todays relevance. Considering it was 3pm I was shocked she had no one else asking all day. I did one to myself and told her I could simply take it back and she refused to cancel unless it went into the system. I was fine with that but shocked at the same time seeing as how it really makes no difference other than an extra pc in the delivery sack. I've never had any problems like this before so I assume maybe new rules are in place or CP needs to send out some sort of memo for the clerks to relax a bit on the collectors.

Canada Post still allows hand cancels. When I buy from the Thunder Bay branch they are very happy to do it.

Didn't you all know that 12/12/12 is National Soundcheck Day?
You know - One Two, One Two, One Two....
Groan...
Anyway, I have been a bit too busy to do much about getting 12/12/12 cancels. I also forgot until it was almost too late... at which point I thought, well, I'd better do SOMEthing. So I dashed into my local village shop, bought 2 postcards and mailed them to my kids. The hitch was - I was a day early, it was Tuesday
Doh!
So - dashed in today and did the same again. After I got home, my two postcards from yesterday arrived - with unreadable postmarks .
I don't hold out much hope of receiving a coveted postmark. Just have to wait for the next triple date to come around....

Well, you don't have long to wait. 01-01-01 is only 87 years away! Good luck stampgal!

I didn't have any problems, but then again, they all see me now and then when I mail out Postcrossing postcards. The man at Carlisle did joke that Harvard "just has to be different..."

Nitro, my Shoppers Drug Mart postal clerk has no problems with hand back cancels, especially with all the Turtles Picture Postage packs I bought . I ate too many though...

I emailed a friend in Funafuti, Tuvalu to get me a 12-12-12. He says it is now in the mail. I will show it when it arrives.

Here is a Canadian 121212 that arrived today in less than a day.

Like I said before Canada Post is doing a fantastic job.

LITHO - that is what I wanted, numbers, not DEC... Below is an envelope I mailed to myself. I wonder what the 21 at the end is... something to do with time? Or is it 2 L?

Mine also arrived in less than a day from CAN Post. I had this imperf vertical block of 4 (red dot variety) hand stamped and also received a decent machine cancel. Shown upside down to see the hand stamp. The 121212 spray on looks better in person than the scan for some reason.
