Poll Question:
Just curious how forum members would describe their collecting habits? Are you "primarily" a limited nation collector, a topical collector, a collect everything person, etc.

Tough poll for me to answer as I do have a simple US mint collection that I typically work on as a diversion but my main collecting interests would be in United States Fair and Exposition issues from 1957 to 1984. (Stamps, FDC's, postal history) And especially the 1964 New York World's Fair. |

I am a "true" worldwide collector- that is I collect all countries, not just a significant subset. But I limit to 1840-1940. Except I am really getting interested in 1940-1950, with WWII and occupations, so I probably will expand. |

I pretty much collect everything that grabs my interest. I have a large US collection and am working on my Worldwide.
For some reason, I don't care for Revenues and Stamped Envelope squares...no idea why, they just mainly go into an envelope.
But if you had to stick it on a letter or package to mail it...I'm generally interested in it.

I've been diagnosed with SADD (Stamp Attention Deficit Disorder) Bounce all over and get serious for about a week and then see something else that makes me go hmmmm and off on another tangent I go. Secret plan to acquire enough in the first 10yrs to keep me busy for the next 20. If I die before the later good luck trying to figure out what I was doing. |

While the majority of us collect several countries, I am sure that there are those in that group who have a secret fettish for back of the book items like revenues, war tax, town cancels etc. If asked, "What's in that little binder in the back?" we say "Oh, just some stuff". There are support groups for folks with these "problems"! |

Overwhelmingly I collect United States and possessions and Canada, but also have quite a large collection of Australia (started last year). My MAIN interest is covers and I have all kinds from all around the world. Of course I have other collecting areas, mainly checks (checques), phone cards and prepaid bank cards. As if that doesn,t take all of my time, I also am quite deep into genealogy. |

I voted topical...
As a kid I wanted one stamp from everywhere. As an adult I got into motorcycles so I started collecting motorcycle stamps in general... Then got even more focused down to my current interest of Italian motorcycles in postal items....

Anything and everything, except I'm buying very little; mostly trying to get a handle on what I've got so I can sell the excess. Only been doing it for about 5 years, so I've got a ways to go. |

I collected only one country for close to 30 years, then I ran out of things to collect for that country so I expanded. I initially was going to choose China as my second country, I had been torn between China and Australia, chose China, but forgot I had ordered a bunch of Australian stamps online, so I'm now doing both. |

This topic has got me thinking about how peoples collecting motivations and interests can be so different and how that helps to make stamp collecting such an widespread and varied hobby/obsession.
Everything from hording common stamps to just focusing on one issued stamp and it's varieties... both equally valid collections.

I collect only used US Private Vending and Affixing Machine Stamps, with special focus on the Schermacks with control perfins.
I used to collect US and Canada but couldn't really do it justice and decided to narrow down my focus. |
