i suppose I could find out the answer if I really wanted to...but my Scott Internationals end with 1969....and as I browse and browse...it seems I see more stamps issued after 1969 than before..imagine I still think of 1969 as modern times !
Are you asking about different stamps, or total volume?
Having done absolutely no research whatsoever (venturing a wild guess), I would guess that that there were more different stamps issued after 1969 thanks to the worldwide CTO craze.
If the US is any indication (not including varieties), just look at the fact that the last stamp issued in 1969 was up to Scott 1390. In the subsequent decades:
From 1970-1979 the Scott numbers were up to 1802, which is at least 412+ stamps (not including varieties); From 1980-1989 the Scott numbers were up to 2438, which is at least 636+ stamps (not including varieties); From 1990-1999 the Scott numbers were up to 3369, which is at least 931+ stamps (not including varieties); From 2000-2009 the Scott numbers were up to 4434, which is at least 1065+ stamps (not including varieties);
And so far in the current decade beginning in 2010, the Scott numbers for 2012 issues are up to 4720, which is a whopping 286 stamps in just two years. At this pace, by the end of the decade, we can look forward to potentially seeing 1430 new stamps (not including varieties) ... assuming the USPS lasts that long.
I wonder if actual numbers printed have dropped even with so many different issues. Seldomly see runs in the multi millions/ billions but with so many different it may come out rather close. Have to assume just with more printed meter stuff and of course the big decreases in sending mail the sheer volume has to have dropped.
