Some real stupid idiot had removed a stamp from this card. He could have kept the stamp intact with the cover and kept it for keeps or sold the entire thing. Here he has removed one stamp and rendered the cover valueless, I guess. Such idiots should not be let to touch stamps and covers. A destroyer rather than a collector he must be.

I have a few covers where a stamp or two have dislodged themselves and I am quite not sure what to do with them. |

It may have just fell off being exposed to high humidity or moisture somewhere along the line. It's not completely valueless as it still has some interesting markings on it. |

Don't be so mean about it ,thats the way the stamp hobby was back in the 1950's and 1960's.I remember many collector were just trying to fill their album pages with stamps .You have to believe millions of covers were damaged because thats what the culture was at the time .It was taught to millions of new collectors ,go up to your grand-parents attic and find old letters and clip and soak the stamps off to add to your album page .Its was how the hobby grew. |

Hmmmm... I wonder how many used U.S. stamps have been removed from covers in the last oh say 166 years. I would assume, most stamps that saw postal duty were actually on cover or piece at one time. |

The cover around where the stamp was looks too clean or umdamaged to have been purposely removed. My vote is that it fell off. |

The missing stamp was probably the 14c Indian of 1922, thus making up the 65c rate for Zeppelin postcards. And the stamp, by the way, undoubtedly removed in GERMANY... Go to Scheffelstrasse 4 in Wiesbaden, poke around for an old album, find the stamp, and STICK IT BACK. |

Just where do you think all the used stamps came from? They weren't issued that way and they all didn't just fall off either.
So, thank all those stupid idiots for the used stamps you have in your album.

Hi floortrader Quote: ... that's the way the stamp hobby was back in the 1950's and 1960's ... The practice goes back to the beginning. I may be dating myself but I remember that is how it was in the 1940's. Jerry B |

Guys thanks for all the replies. Removing a stamp off the cover that belongs or was posted to you is one thing and removing a stamp from a cover and then selling of the cover to a unsuspecting buyer is another thing. There are alot of innocent buyers around and doing business with such an attitude is wrong. It is true that stamps in our albums are removed from some covers and we do buy used stamps without a cover. But when you sell a cover it is suppose to be intact with all the stamps not covered such a way where a person doesnt realise a stamp missing. |

It really looks like the missing stamp fell off on it's own - there's traces of foxing on the edges where the was located. If you received this cover in a box lots, etc. root around to see if you can find the loose stamp.
You can still sell this cover without the missing stamp - it would be at a discount and write in your description that there is clearly a missing stamp. |

That's terrible! It looks like the stamps in my collection are still attached to the letters and postcards to which they originally were used...thank goodness!! |

Selva,
If I understand your last post, this card was purchased in a lot along with other covers/cards but the portion that would show the missing stamp was purposely hidden in the image(s) shown by the seller.
If that is what happened, I agree with you that that seller's practice was deceptive. As Battlestamps said in his post, the seller's description should have clearly stated that a stamp was missing.

Thats what happened Steve. It was supposed to be a surprise New Year gift to me from my wife and 8 year old daughter. What saddens me most is that it broke my daughter. She was so excited about getting me the gift.Collector, seller or buyer everyone needs to practice some principles. My words would have been further harsh if it was not for my obligation and respect for the forum. As my wife says no big deal we can afford it and buy another one. I tell her it is not the matter of affording it, is the matter of principle. In a buying selling transaction there is some amount of trust involved and someone destroys that. |
