Question to Canada Post on Facebook: February 5 Why not sell mint, if you are selling FDC's. Collecting mint stamps is far more popular than FDC's...Answer: February 6 Due to the fact they are dispensed from the machine one at a time -- and denominated at that time, a decision was made not to sell individual stamps. As of Monday, February 11, the FDC's were still not available. This will be the second time Canada Post has sold First Day covers of a stamp issue (from the National philatelic Bureau), without selling mint stamps. The first was the new design horizontal format picture postage issue of November 2012. |

Here's the Facebook message: The Official First Day Cover bearing the Kiosk stamp (with a domestic postage rate as it was on December 2012) will be on sale on our online store as of Friday, February 15, 2013. The date of issue is December 12, 2012 and the cancellation ...site is TORONTO ON. I just checked Canada Post's website and it is not available as yet...it is listed when I do a search but link seems to be broken. |

Well... mine's already ordered. I had no trouble yesterday (Feb.16). It was under OFDC in "Collecting". So it looks like there are 15 kiosks in the experiment. 6 in Toronto area (incl. Scarborough) 5 in Vancouver area 3 in Montreal area (incl. Longueuil) 1 in London area Not a lot. It seems strange for Canada Post not to service their philatelic audience from Antigonish. Collectors in the prairie and maritime provinces, the north, and the states, are out of luck. Maybe those of us near kiosks can help. I'm certainly willing but being a newby I have limited communication ability on this blog. (Not that I'm complaining or anything.) |

The latest edition of Canadian Stamp News (Feb. 26-March 11)features a front page story dealing with the kiosks. This edition isn't on the CSN web site yet. Bret Evans reports that this is a one-year pilot project with 23 kiosks planned across the country. |

Thanks for that article Lord Denning. This stamp series is nothing but problematic: 1) the FDC was not issued on the first day! It's been back dated. Anyone who has a privately made FDC should cherish it because that is a genuine FDC compared to the one they back dated. 2) One year pilot project? these machines must have been very costly for Canada Post so one year seems like a big waste of money. 3) there's limited availability of the original denominations because of rate increase about a month after these machines went live. 4) 23 machines across all of Canada is unfair to collectors who don't live near them. I haven't even gotten the new denominations as yet because I don't want to drive the 45 mins to an hour downtown for these stamps. I can't imagine the trouble encountered by people who live even further than I do. |

Hello agondocz,! May I please use a cropped part of your image to post or the Canada POCON cancel thread? I have never yet seen such a small sized POCON (6-digit) cancel before. Or, you yourself could crop it down a bit and post it there also. POCON thread: https://goscf.com/t/29893Doug |
