Left: 1882 Scott 50 5c blue violet & violet "Sun"
Right: Reprint-Forgery

After the 1882 issue was produced, the printing plates were re-touched, and large quantities of reprint-forgeries were sold to collectors.

The differences:
• Red arrow: The middle vertical line of the right frame on the edge of the "Sun" vignette is thin or non-existent. Genuine.
• Blue arrow: The middle vertical line of the right frame is prominent and consistent. Reprint-Forgery.

For those SCFers who are interested in the early reprint-forgeries of Persia, or just curious,my most recent blog post features an introduction to this fascinating topic.

Nice blog posting. Persia definitely scares away any number of collectors.

I have a small degree of confidence in sorting out the definite forgeries, but then I look at what I have left and think, "now what?"

Overprint forgeries are particularly vexing, and as a classical generalist, I don't have the references/resources....
