British Guiana One Cent Black on Magenta

British Guiana One Cent Black on Magenta (1856) are among the rarest and most expensive stamps. The stamp was printed on poor quality paper with black ink magenta colored, due to emergency conditions.

Known, there is only one piece left in the whole world. The stamp is so unique and no others have ever been found. In 1980 it was auctioned to John Dupont for $ 935,000, or approximately USD 8.8 billion.

Picture of fake from auction website

As you can see even stamp on a fake is in exactly same position as on original one, to hide faults its has been heavy darkened by ink smear, also paper color doesnot much original.

Oh well, at least he's not going to fool you (or anybody). Might be the closest one gets to owning a black on magenta.
I'm not a Br. Guiana collector, but the rest look ok, with the exception of a couple with condition issues. One even has my birthdate!
Are the rest worth your putting a bid on if you collected the country?

It looks as if the word Facsimile has been written next to it.

One of the big stamp approval firms made a very good facsimile of this stamp and sold thousands back in the 1960's,this could be one of them with a little extra black cancel ink added to mask the word "facsimile"

There's something wrong about this statement....

In 1980, he paid USD $ 935K. The rest of that sentence is a mystery.

The quote came directly from the website posted by Mr. Gladiator up top, on his original thread. You're right. It doesn't make any sense. I doubt 1980 dollars could translate into $8.8 billion in just 32 years.

edit - that website originates in Ireland (.ie), though that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Some of the other valuable stamps noted are listed in US dollars and Rp billions, whatever currency that is.
Another example of 'just because it's on the web, doesn't make it gospel'. Don't people fact check and proof read?

edit 2 - a penny black is listed at USD 1.7 million selembarnya.

Indonesia?

Indian Rupees, probably. There's something like 55 Rupees to $1.

SO unique? It is either unique OR not unique.
