Austria came out with a new definitive series called
Contemporary Architecture and boy are they ugly.

These self adhesives were printed in the Netherlands by Joh. Enschedé supposedly via offset.

But to my eye the black colour looks like it was printed by letterset
which as Jorge explained awhile back is dry offset and is similar
to typography.

Designer : Rainer Prohaska

A member of an Austrian stamp forum informed me that every stamp
has somewhere in the design dash dot dash _ . _ the Morse Code
for the letter K representing the k in the designer's name.

I only have a few from the series. The Morse K is easy to find
once you know what to look for.

This first one reminds me of my garage door opener.

Thanks for pointing out the code. Interesting. I can't disagree that they aren't much on looks, but there is still something I kind of like about them.

I agree Cjd that there is something about them.

Maybe were all become jaded from looking at all those multi multi coloured stamps of the last 50 years.

So when we see single colour examples like this with simple lines
we kind of admire the simplicity.

And as I mentioned before the printing is also quite crude which is evident in the lettering.

They aren't pretty, that's for sure.

That last one looks like an alien from another planet.

I forgot to mention previously that the series was first issued in 2011 but
was reissued in 2012 with the addition of the architects in the design.

This 62c now has imprinted Spacelab Cook-Fournier which is the name of the firm responsible for this monstrosity

rohumpy, you were right on.

Here is a quote from a site which explains the project.

Quote:
Located on the banks of the Mur, between the red brick roofs of neighboring historic buildings, the new architectural symbol is locally referred to as the "friendly alien".

Here are a few more Austrian Modern Architecture definitives
issued 2011 - 12.

This 62c is from the first issue as there is no architectural firm
on the stamp.

The 70c is a reissue as is indicated by the architectural firm
Friedrich Hoff Zwink

This 62c one below is also a reissue, see the name of the firm on lower left, Ortner & Ortner

As mentioned previously somewhere included in the design is a dash dot dash -.-
the Morse Code for the letter K representing the k in the designer's name.

Good grief, these are no improvement over the first group posted on this thread! Hard to believe that Austria is the birth mother for these unappealing designs given all the beautiful stamps it has created in its history.
