Thanks for sharing. Those were the wonderful old fashion mail handling days. They are forever gone and will never again return, staying only in our memmories.
When I came to the US in 1960 on a foreign student visa. 4 cents were charged for a letter mailed in the US. Today, at 46 cents, they say it is still a bargain.

I almost despair over the USPS. The US government simply can't allow the postal service to go the way of the dodo bird. Surely there is a niche for the postal service to fill. At the same time I don't think privatization is the answer. All that would do is to guarantee that service to all areas would disappear. If the private company can't make a profit, then it would drop certain customers and geographic areas. Where is the fairness in that?

Maybe there are a few things which can't be profit driven. Universal postal service, in my opinion, is one of these things.
