Just received in the mail this collection of Christmas labels dating from 1945 to 1950 from the Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Newark NJ.
Originally named the Newark German Hospital, the name was changed to Newark Memorial Hospital in 1919 (anti German feelings) then the Lutheran Memorial Hospital in 1946. Eventually the Hospital was named after Nurse Clara Maas, who is pictured on the last three issues.
I thought they looked kind of nice. Plus they were inexpensive. Always a bonus.
1945 was the first year for these charity seals and they continued to about 1975. In 1953 the name officialll changed to Clara Maass Memorial Luthern Hospital.
These and other Luthern seals are listed in the Mosbaugh Catalogues, Section IV. Mosbaugh catalogues can be obtained through the Christmas Seal & Charity Stamp Society. http://seal-society.org/
