Letters and documents like this have always fascinated me. The journey from Damiata to Alexandria was probably arduous back then. Imagine what the letter had to go through to stay intact for 600 years.

The people involved, both writer and recipient, are lost to the mists of time (though in this case the man who signed for this letter is named Papadapoulis). They were just living life and conducting everyday business, never thinking that their correspondence would survive even a few years.

I've purchased a few other old letters (from the 17th and 18th centuries), and never been disappointed.

I should get it translated, assuming I can find someone who knows old Italian. But if it starts out "Meet me at the Pub.." then I'm giving it to stallzer. He'd deserve it for such a great guess.
