That might explain why some of the perforations appear damaged where the pen might have caught and pulled a bit. Interesting, I never leave here not learning something! Thank you!

the 3p has hat looks like a 4 circle target type cancel , many were just the circles but some had nubers inside. The 5cent is deffinte pen cancel .

Somewhere along the line, I had heard of the sun on the Beaver stamp, but this thread got me started looking elsewhere in early issues. Yep, there are others as in the 1858 Argentina issue and a more formalized version in a later issue as well.

Not yet morphed into a smiley face but the idea is there. Any others?
